At Papa, companion caregivers are Papa Pals. They work part-time in communities supporting Papa members, including older adults, seniors and families.  

Papa Pals help people in their neighborhoods with things like companionship, help around the house, shopping, and transportation. 

From the big things to the little things, Papa Pals care for others in ways that really matter. Most certainly, Papa Pals fill each of their visits with small kindnesses.

Taking care of the little things

Papa Pals like Marrie and James help with a variety of household tasks, including light housekeeping, gardening, meal prep, car rides, grocery shopping and pet care.

Papa Pals take care of the little things that mean a lot. Whether Papa Pals are cooking a hot meal, changing batteries in smoke alarms, or watering plants, they make a house feel more like home. Most importantly, they help people feel cared for.

Qualities of great companion caregivers

It might surprise you to learn that you don't need certifications to work as a companion caregiver. The job doesn’t require medical or health care classes. 

In essence, it's difficult to learn the most important qualities of great companion caregivers in a classroom. 

For example, things like empathy, reliability and kindness are all qualities you gain through life experiences. Companion caregivers often have experience caring for others, including family and community members, plus a range of paid work and volunteer experience.

Above all, Papa Pals are kind-hearted people who make a difference.
