How does scheduling work?
You choose when you work and how often. Shifts–or visits–are usually between 2 and 4 hours. You can browse available visits in the Pal App and select the visits that fit your schedule, up to 2 weeks in advance or at the last minute.
What is the companion caregivers hourly rate?
At Papa, companion caregivers earn a base hourly rate, plus bonuses. Hourly rates vary by location. With bonuses, many companion caregivers earn around $20 an hour. Check location specific rates and available companion caregiver jobs near you.
What are the caregiver requirements?
- Age 21 or older
- Access to a smartphone
- Ability to communicate in English
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Insured vehicle (model year 2008 or newer) with insurance policy in your name
- A valid U.S. state government-issued driver’s license
- Must be able to pass an annual background check and motor vehicle report
- Commitment to arrive at visits on time

How can I apply to start working as a companion caregiver?
Then, we'll run a background check. (Papa pays for the background check.) As soon as you’re cleared, you can move onto the next step and schedule your first visit. It takes 1 to 2 weeks to get approved.
How does Papa process payments?
Payments are sent directly to your bank account using a payment service called Tipalti. There are no transaction fees.
How often will I get paid?
You can expect payments within 2 business days after completing a visit.
What about mileage?
When you provide transportation, such as a ride to and from a doctor's appointment, Papa pays for your mileage. You can get more information about mileage on your location page.
