Helping Members Prepare For An Emergency
Tips to help members be ready for any type of emergency.
As a Pal, it can be useful to know how to help members prepare for potential natural disasters or medical emergencies. Here are some tips on how to help members be ready for any type of emergency:
- Encourage members to create an emergency plan that includes important information, like emergency contacts, medical history, and a medication list. We suggest the member make copies of the plan and keep one in a visible and accessible location, such as by the phone or on the fridge.
- Discuss and practice emergency procedures with the member, like what to do during a hurricane, snowstorm, or a fall. This can help ensure that the member is prepared and knows what to do in case of an emergency.
- Identify potential hazards in the member’s home and share the feedback with Papa so we can work with the member’s health plan to take appropriate action.
- Suggest members keep emergency supplies on hand, like a first aid kit, flashlight, and extra medications. Make sure that the member knows where to find these supplies.
- Ensure that members are aware of local emergency resources and procedures.
Following these steps can help members be as safe as possible during an emergency.
